A slow running Brisque 3.0.38 and 4.0 may be due to stopped CPU

  • 43P-140 Tiger1
  • 43P-150 Tiger2
  • F50 - Wildcat (2 and 4 CPUs)

Brisque 4.0:

  • 43P-140 Tiger 1
  • 43P-150 Tiger 2
  • F50 - Wildcat (2 and 4 CPUs)
  • 44P-170 Hammerhead
  • 6F1 Condor (2, 4, and 6 CPUs)

Operating system

IBM AIX 4.2.1 and IBM AIX 4.3.3

Symptoms

  Brisque is running very slowly.

Cause

The CPU is probably stopped due to a process and needs to be released.

Solution

  1. Open a Terminal Window.
  2. At the prompt type:

monitor<space>-top<space>10 <return>

  1. A list of processes appears.
  2. Review processes that are 90% or above.

If the Brisque is running correctly, the process that should be above 90% is Wait.

If the Brisque is stopped, another process (usually Expose or Preview) will be at 90% or more. You'll need to end that process.

Write down the PIF number associated with the stopped process.

  1. Type “Control C”. This will give you a UNIX prompt. (#)
  2. Type “Kill<space>-9<space><the PIF # of the stuck process>”
  3. The CPU will now be cleared of the stuck process.
