Using Spot Color XT with MacOS European languages causes corrupt color lists in Brisque 3.0.38 and PS/M 6 RIP

Product

  • Brisque 3.038 Update CD 2
  • PS/M 6.0

Platform

  • Macintosh OS
  • E30 - Victory
  • 43P-140 Tiger 1
  • 43P-150 Tiger 2
  • F50 - Wildcat (2 and 4 CPUs)

Operating system

IBM AIX 4.2.1

Symptoms

Using the Spot Color XT in most European Macintosh OS systems can lead to corrupted color lists on the RIP station.

On both platforms when you open the "specific info" list , it will look incorrect and the RIP result will not be correct, spot names appear more than once, there are incorrect CMYK values (usually 0 in all separations), overprint values which should not be there, and merging of separations, etc.

Cause

Most European languages use commas as a decimal separator. The code generated by the Spot Color XT actually uses this convention thereby confusing the RIP station when reading information from the PostScript file.

Solution

  1. Launch the Numbers control panel
  2. Change the decimal separator to . (point). You can either do this manually or by selecting one of these sets: Australian, British, or U.S.
  3. Print your jobs from QuarkXPress again. There is no need to restart the Macintosh.
