Operating system

Symptoms

Disks appear as “other” in lsdev.

Cause

We support only 7200RPM (Barracuda) drives on the following platforms: E30, 43P-140, 43P-150, F50 - not 10K (Cheetah).

We have defined new Barracudas:

  • ST318438LW - 18GB (part of the product)
  • ST336938LW - 36GB (additional kits)

We have added support (stanzas) for those drives in Brisque Update 18, but since it is loaded after the disk is live, it causes the following:

  • If the disk (ST318438LW or ST336938LW) exists during the cold start it will appear as “other disk”.
  • If the disk is inserted after cold start, it will appear correctly until the next cold start.
  • The “stanzas” diskette shipped with Brisque 3.0.38 and 4.0-EP1, which is not needed anymore, may also appear correctly until the next cold start if it is loaded without first removing the disk.

Solution

  • If the disk (ST318438LW or ST336938LW) exists during the cold start it will appear as “other disk”.
    1. Export the disk.
    2. Run cfgmgr.
    3. Import it back.
    4. It will now appear with the correct description.

  • Make sure to remove the disk before loading the “stanzas” diskette shipped with Brisque 3.0.38 and 4.0-EP1.
