Brisque 3.0.38 and 4.0 may freeze due to a problem with the CPU-233Mhz board

Product

  • Brisque 3.0.38 Update CD2
  • Brisque 4.0

Platform

Brisque 3.0.38

  • E30 - Victory
Brisque 4.0:
  • E30 - Victory

Operating system

IBM AIX 4.2.1 or IBM AIX 4.3.3

Symptoms

The Brisque freezes during start-up or during normal operation. The only way to recover is to switch the machine off and on.
This problem can be detected immediately after the CPU installation.

Cause

After an investigation with IBM, they found that the CPU-233MHz is sensitive to high temperatures. They modified the board.

Solution

Identify the boards based on the following:

Modified board P/N is: 07l8002 (FRU# 07l8001)

Unmodified board P/N is: 93H6296 or 93H7835 (FRU# 93H3456)

IBM is quite confident that they screened the majority of the bad CPU's since they are running the machines for 24 hours before sending them to Creo, and in the Creo production line, machines are running overnight heating tests.

Therefore, there might be problems with some CPU's that were bought separately and were supplied in the Upgrade kits (510K51116) without the heating tests.

Currently IBM and the Creo production lines are checking every CPU before shipment.

Creo supplied around 100 kits and most of them were installed and working fine.

The problem was reported from two sites: one in Creo America  and one in Creo Europe.

We suggest you continue with the upgrades and do not make any mandatory changes.

Please report and send back to CIL every defective board.
