TSP boards (part number 503D03465 or 503D03465L) cause the Brisque 6F1 platform to stop responding during expose

Product

  Brisque™ 4.0

Platform

6F1—Condor (2, 4, and 6 CPUs)

Operating system

IBM® AIX 4.3.3

Component

TSP (Turbo Screening Processor) boards (part number 503D03465 or 503D03465L)

Symptoms

The Brisque 6F1 platform, configured with TSP boards (part number 503D03465 or 503D03465L), stops responding during expose to any output device.

An 888 error appears on the platform’s display panel.

A large vmcore file is generated in /var/adm/ras, which can cause the /var file system to become too full.

Cause

The hardware design of the TSP boards (part number 503D03465 or 503D03465L) cause the Brisque 6F1 platform to stop responding during expose.

Solution

  1. Remove the TSP boards (part number 503D03465 or 503D03465L).
  2. Replace removed TSP boards with modified TSP boards (part number 503D03465M) (see Figure 1).

Note: This also applies to a Brisque 6F1 platform configured with a single TSP board (part number 503D03465 or 503D03465L).

The 503D03465M TSP board includes an additional capacitor and resistor close to the UU101A chip (see Figure 2 and Figure 3).

  3. Delete the vmcore file that was generated in the /var/adm/ras folder.
