Brisque is slow “fetching” a single-strip one-bit TIFF file before exposing it to a platesetter

Product

  Brisque™ 4.0

Platform

  • 43P-150—Tiger2
  • F50—Wildcat (2 and 4 CPUs)
  • 44P-170—Hammerhead
  • 6F1— Condor (2,4, and 6 CPUs)

Operating system

IBM® AIX 4.3.3

Machines affected

All output devices

Symptoms

Brisque takes a long time "fetching" while it changes a one-bit TIFF file to a different type, before sending the TIFF file to an output device for exposing to plate.

The TIFF file was created by the Founder RIP or a different third-party RIP vendor.

Cause

Because Brisque cannot rotate a single-strip TIFF file by 180 degrees, it converts the single-strip one-bit TIFF created by the Founder RIP to a multiple-strip TIFF.

Solution

Ask the customer to recreate the single-strip one-bit TIFF file as a multiple-strip TIFF file.

Or,

If the customer cannot recreate the single-strip one-bit TIFF file as a multiple-strip TIFF file, then swap the mirror settings in both Brisque and the Founder RIP to the opposite of the current settings.

For example, in the Founder RIP, if the mirror setting is unchecked, then change the setting to checked.

In Brisque, if the template is set to Wrong reading, change it to Right reading.

In general, to prevent a "fetching" (changing TIFF type), the Reading and Orientation settings should be one of the following combinations:

  • Reading = Right and Orientation = Rotate 180
  • Reading = Wrong and Orientation = Normal
