Network speed is slow after Brisque 3.0 is migrated to Brisque 4.0

Product

  Brisque™ 4.0

Platform

  • E30—Victory
  • 43P-140—Tiger1
  • 43P-150—Tiger2
  • F50—Wildcat (2 and 4 CPUs)
  • 44P-170—Hammerhead
  • 6F1— Condor (2,4, and 6 CPUs)

Operating system

  IBM® AIX 4.3.3

Symptoms

Network speed is slow after Brisque 3.0 is migrated to Brisque 4.0.

Cause

After the system reboots during the migration process, the Brisque network card is set to auto-negotiate the highest communication speed with the network switch. Next, the system configuration is automatically restored from the Brisque 3.0 data volumes.

When you reboot the system, Brisque changes the communication speed setting of the network card from Auto_Negotiation to a different communication speed.

Solution

Call the Creo Response Center and ask them to correct the problem remotely. An operator will ask you for the modem number of the Brisque that needs repair.

Or, perform the following procedure yourself:

  1. From the Brisque Launch Pad, open the Services panel.

  2. From the Services panel, double-click the SMIT icon. The Brisque Password dialog box is displayed.

  3. In the User box, type root, and in the Password box, type your password (ripro by default). The SMIT window is displayed.

  4. From the Devices menu, select Communication>Ethernet Adapter>Adapter> Change / Show Characteristics of an Ethernet Adapter.

  5. From the Network Adapter list, select the network adapter card installed in the Brisque.

  6. From the Media Speed menu, select Auto_Negotiation.

  7. Reboot and log on to the system using the same username and password described in step 3.

  8. In the LanTest application, test the Brisque transfer speeds using the following methods:

    • In the Send application, send a job, folder or file to a remote destination, such as another Brisque.
    • In the MountPro application, mount a NFS data volume of another Brisque, Brisque Server or NT server, and access and work with the files using the local File Manager.
    • From a Macintosh computer, access and work with Brisque files.

Note: The normal transfer speed between a Brisque and a Macintosh G3, with Fast Ethernet networks cards, ranges between
      7 mb/s to 9 mb/s.
