Symptoms

Brisque cannot use ASCII text files that are copied from a Macintosh computer using AppleTalk . Examples of text file types that cannot be used include: tone reproduction curves, Excurves, templates, and .assign files.

Cause

When you copy an ASCII text file from a Macintosh®  computer to Brisque, a control-M character (^M) is added to the end of each line of the ASCII text file. This action damages the text file, and makes it unusable on Brisque.

Solution

Download the removeCtrlM program by FTP (File Transfer Protocol), and then recover a damaged ASCII text file:

To recover a damaged ASCII text file:

  1. From the FTP location ftp://cilftp.creo.com/pws/brisque/download/V4/Patches/, download the removeCtrlM program.
  2. Save the removeCtrlM program in a Brisque directory.
  3. In Brisque, open an AIX terminal window.
  4. At the command line prompt, use the CD command to navigate to the Brisque directory where the removeCtrlM program is saved.
  5. At the command line prompt, type ./removeCtrlM <File name of damaged ASCII text file>.
For example, to recover a damaged file named 148617.trc, type ./removeCtrlM 148617.trc.

The control-M characters are removed from the end of each line of the ASCII text file, and a new file (with the same name as the original file) is created with a .removeCtrlM suffix. For example, 148617.trc.removeCtrlM.
  6. Rename the damaged text file to include an .org suffix. For example, rename the damaged text file 148617.trc to 148617.trc.org.
  7. Remove the .removeCtrlM suffix from the recovered text file. For example, rename the recovered text file 148617.trc.removeCtrlM file to 148617.trc.
The text file is usable on Brisque.

Note: Future versions of Brisque will incorporate the removeCtrlM program.
