Error

One of the following messages can appear:

  • Abnormal Termination of PS RIP

  • HighRes not found

Symptoms

In Brisque and PS/M, the RIP operation fails when processing a PostScript or PDF format file that was created by QuarkXPress® 5.0. The PostScript or PDF file contains embedded OPI comments that point to high-resolution images.
Brisque and PS/M display a alert message.

Cause

This problem has been identified by QuarkXPress as a known issue in QuarkXpress version 5.01. They state “When the QuarkXTensions software, OPI, is loaded, OPI comments are generated for EPS files even if you have removed check marks in the OPI column of the Usage dialog box OPI tab and unchecked OPI Active in the Print dialog box.”

For further information and updates, refer to the OPI QuarkXTensions software section on QuarkXPress 5.01 Known Issues Web site
(http://www.quark.com/products/xpress/501knownissues.html#11).

Solution

Perform one the solutions below; either in Brisque or in the QuarkXPress application. It is not necessary to perform both of these solutions.

In Brisque:

  1. From the Brisque Launch bar, open the Operations panel.

  2. Double-click the RIP icon. The Template Builder and RIP dialog boxes appear.

  3. In the RIP dialog box, click the HighRes .Handling button. The Highres. Handling dialog box appears.

  4. In the Enable HighRes Replacement options, clear the OPI check box.

  5. Click the OK button.

  6. In the RIP dialog box, click the OK button.
  7. In the Template Builder dialog box, click the Save button.

Or,

In QuarkXPress:

  1. From the Utilities menu, choose Xtensions Manager. The Xtensions Manager dialog box appears.
  2. From the list of Xtensions, choose the OPI XT row.
  3. Click the Enable list box and choose No. The OPI XT is disabled, and its status in the list changes to Inactive once QuarkXPress is re-started.
