  • 6F1—Condor (2, 4, and 6 CPUs)

Operating system

IBM® AIX 4.2.1 or IBM AIX 4.3.3

Symptoms

A Brisque user that is logged on as cdesci cannot write to directories on data volumes that were created by macuser from Mac® OS X 10.2.2.

Cause

On the Mac client, the macusers group contains the user members cdesci and macuser, which normally grants full directory write permissions to Brisque cdesci users.

Mac OS 9 creates creates directories on the Helios-mounted volume using the “000” mask.
The “000” mask enables full write permissions (rwxrwxrwx) on each directory that you create on the Mac.

However, Mac OS X 10.2.2. creates directories on the Helios-mounted volume using the “022” mask, which is the system default mask.
The “022” mask enables write permissions for the owner of the directory only (rwxr-xr-x).

If you change the default system mask of “022” to “000”, Mac OS X 10.2.2. does not enable full write permissions on new directories that you create.

Note: The  “000” and  “022” masks have no relation to the mask attribute of the macuser user that is set on the IBM AIX server.

Solution

Download the Mac OS X 10.2.3 update from Apple®.

This update enables:

  • Write permissions on new folders that you create.

  • Write permissions on the group of folders that you create inside a parent folder with write permissions. This feature works in both OS X native and in OS X classic mode.
