  • Brisque 3.0
  • Brisque Serve 4.0
  • Timna™ 3.0

Platform

Error

One of the following messages appears:

unknown user, invalid password, or log on disabled

Symptoms

In Mac OS X, when you use the Chooser to connect to Brisque, Brisque Serve, or Timna, an error message appears, and the login attempt fails.

Following, is a detailed list of events that were performed:

  1. In OS X, open the Chooser.

  2. Choose Go, and then choose Connect to Server.

  3. Choose the desired AIX hostname to connect to.

  4. In the Login dialog box, type the appropriate user name.

  5. Choose OK.

After several minutes, the Chooser exits and an error message appears.

Cause

There is more than one network adapter installed in Brisque, Brisque Serve, or Timna. Mac OS X does not communicate well with mixed AIX and Helios environments.

Solution

Perform one of the three workaround procedures, starting with workaround 1, which is the preferred workaround.

Use workarounds 2 and 3 if you are running Preps® software for impositioning, or StepOne and LRS software for packaging. Workarounds 2 and 3 let you type the network path of the Creo server to which you want to connect.

Workaround 1

  1. In Brisque, open the atalk.conf file in a text editor.

  2. Add the following line to the file:
    ipaddress=<x.x.x.x>
Where <x.x.x.x> represents the IP address of the network adapter that Macintosh clients will access.

The Ethershare Administration Guide (for Ethershare versions 2.5 and 2.6) explains the function of this variable further:

"Numberstring specifies the IP-address the "afpsrv" program offers to the Macintosh clients for logging in via IP protocol.
The default for numberstring is the number of all configured IP-addresses of all network cards installed in the server.
ipaddresses (see ipaddress) is applied for handling more than one IP-address, and is given out in a string in which the addresses appear comma-separated."

Workaround 2:

  1. In Mac OS X, open the Chooser.

  2. Choose Go, and then choose Connect to Server. The Login dialog box appears.

  3. In the address text box, type the hostname of the desired Creo server to connect to, and press Enter.
For example, type afp://bnc3, and press Enter.

  4. In the Chooser, choose Go.

  5. In the address text box, type the hostname of the desired Creo server to connect to.

  6. Choose Add to Favorites.

  7. Mount the Creo server:

    1. In the Chooser, choose Go.
    2. Choose Favorites.
    3. Select the desired server hostname.

Workaround 3:

  1. In Mac OS X, open the Chooser.

  2. Choose Go, and then choose Connect to Server. The Login dialog box appears.

  3. In the address text box, type the IP address of the desired Creo server to connect to.
For example, type the IP address 10.4.27.350.

  4. Choose Add to Favorites.

Tip:

In Mac OS X, create aliases to the Creo servers that you have mounted successfully. To mount a server's volume again in the future, simply double-click on the server's alias.
