To make the data usable, scan the data on the damaged tape into the Legato
records, and then create a new ripro client (customer host name) in Legato
nwadmin.
To recover the data from a damaged Legato tape:
At the AIX command line prompt, type scanner -c ripro
-f 27 -v -N Archive.901 /dev/rmt4 -x uasm -rv -m /=/dataVolumes/lion1.5.0/archive.039/901,
and press Enter.
The following table describes the items included in this command:
| Item |
Description |
| -c ripro |
Name of client (customer server) |
| -f 27 |
Go to file -27.
You can type -r 800 after this value, for example, -f
27 -r 800 |
| -v |
Verbose mode, which displays more information on-screen |
| -N Archive.889 |
Saveset to be recovered.
Alternatively, you can type
-S SSID |
| /dev/rmt4 |
Name of tape drive |
| -x |
Legato flag enables additional commands to be entered
on the same line |
| uasm |
Legato module for saving and recovering UNIX filesystem
data |
| -r |
Rename conflicting files |
| -v |
Verbose mode, which displays more information on-screen |
| -m / |
Map file name. In this example, the value /
specifies to map all files from root downwards. |
| /dataV.../../901 |
Path to which to restore file(s) |
The output displays the recovery progress, as in the following example:

Explanation of output:
- The system reads 100 records at a time and discovers an error with
file 27, record 1059.
- Because the saveset is non-existent, the system prompts for the continuation
of the saveset.
- Skip approximately 200 records and continue. For example, specify
file 27, record 1200.
- When the system recovers the saveset, the scan completes. The system
displays the size of the data that is written to the destination.
