Translate to TIFF-IT is not supported when Adobe InDesign 2.0.2 files are RIPed into four LWs

Product

  • Brisque® 4.0
  • Brisque 4.1
  • Brisque 5.0

Platform

  • E30 - Victory
  • 43P-140 - Tiger1
  • 43P-150 - Tiger2
  • F50 - Wildcat (2 and 4 CPUs)
  • 44P-170 - Hammerhead
  • 6F1- Condor (2,4 and 6 CPUs)

Operating system

IBM® AIX® 4.3.3

Symptoms

When the RIP is set to CTQuality mode (CT to CT border in LW resolution), InDesign files are RIPed into four LWs.

Cause

The Page contains too many interacting elements. For example, multiple transparencies over images.

InDesign 2.0.2 is tiling large images into small pieces, causing the RIP (in CTQuality mode) to create multiple colors in the LW and easily reach the 64,000-color LW limitation. The RIP breaks the LW into four pre-separated LWs, which produces perfect RIP results, but the Page cannot be translated to TIFF-IT P1.

Solution

This is a known problem, and we are currently working on a permanent solution.

Workaround

RIP the files using the SmartEdge option, which creates the additional colors in CT.
