In QuarkXPress 6, incorrect PANTONE colors are printed when different libraries contain the same PANTONE number

Product

  • QuarkXPress® 6
  • Brisque 5
  • Brisque® 4.1
  • PS/M® 7.x
  • PS/M 8

Platform

  Macintosh®

Operating system

  Mac OS X®

Symptoms

In QuarkXPress 6, the following problem occurs in Composite and Preseparated modes. When the same PANTONE® number is used in different library types, such as Coated and Uncoated, QuarkXpress uses the first PANTONE number on the color list regardless of its library type. You can see the incorrect PANTONE color name in the QuarkXPress Print dialog box:
In Composite mode, when DeviceN is selected, and in Preseparated mode, when Use Separations is selected.
Since the QuarkXPress application is the cause to this problem, any front end application, including non-Creo ones, may be affected.

Cause

QuarkXPress 6 ignores the library type information, and prints according to the first color in the color list. For example, you want to print with PANTONE 280 CE, and the color list contains PANTONE 280 C. QuarkXpress will print with PANTONE 280 C because it appears before PANTONE 280 CE in the color list.

Solution

This is a QuarkXPress 6 known problem and it has been reported to Quark®.
To work around this problem, delete the PANTONE color number that you do not want to use from the color list.
