F50 won't reboot properly with 2 processor boards

Product

  • Brisque®—all versions
  • Brisque Serve

Platform

F50—Wildcat (4 CPUs)

Operating system

IBM® AIX® 4.2.1 or AIX 4.3.3

Error

One of the following error codes: E0BF, 4B2, STBY, E0xx or 4B2xxxxxx

Symptoms

Brisque F50 with 2 processor boards (4 CPUs), does not reboot properly. The system will reboot 3 consecutive times, each time displaying one of the above error codes. After the third attempt, the error STBY appears.
Note: Brisque F50 with 1 processor board (2 CPUs) reboots properly.

Cause

The mounting clip that secures the screw at the lower left corner of the System card (the smaller backplane card where the processors are inserted) touches 2 resistors on the System card.

Solution

Perform the following steps:

  1. Turn off the F50.
  2. Disconnect the F50 power cable.
  3. Disconnect the CPU power cable.
  4. Remove the 2 processor boards + Memory card.
  5. Disconnect the System card (P1 in the figure below) power cables.
  6. Remove all the screws that secure the System card.
  7. Remove the System card.
  8. Remove the bottom left mounting clip (see the figure below).
  9. Install the System card in its place using only three screws—do not insert the bottom left screw.
Note: Verify that the I/O planar and System card (P1 and P2 in the figure) are properly connected.
  10. Reconnect the System card power cables.
  11. Clean the CPU connectors.
  12. Reconnect the CPU power cable.
  13. Insert the 2 CPUs and Memory card.
  14. Reconnect the F50 power cable.
  15. Turn on the F50.
