Samba fails to write files larger than 1.5 GB to Brisque 4.x or Brisque Serve

Product

  • Brisque® 4.x
  • Brisque Serve 4.x

Platform

All Brisque 4.x platforms

Operating system

IBM® AIX® 4.3.3

Symptoms

When you copy a file that is larger than 1.5 GB from a Windows® or Macintosh® station to a Samba-mounted Brisque 4 or Brisque Serve volume, the file gets corrupted and Samba fails to write the file to the designated volume.

Cause

On Brisque Serve and Brisque 4, the sciroot user ulimit default is 1.5 GB. As a result, when the Samba client is operating with AIX 4.3.3, it refers to the 1.5 GB limit, even though Samba, by default, should work as a macuser.

Solution

Change the sciroot user limit to unlimited (-1):

  1. Check the current sciroot ulimit. Type:
    lsuser -a fsize sciroot
    The following is displayed:
    sciroot fsize=1507151
  2. Change the sciroot to unlimit. Type:
    chuser fsize='-1' sciroot
  3. Restart samba on Brisque and Brisque Serve. Type:
    stopsmb
    startsmb

Note: After performing the above procedure to enable the transfer and copy of files that are larger than 1.5 GB to Brisque, it is most likely that the files cannot be processed by the Brisgue software.
