Setting a client timeout in EtherShare 2.6

Product

Brisque® 5.0

Platform

All Brisque 5.0 platforms

Operating system

IBM® AIX® 5.2

Symptoms

The client site has many Mac stations (for example, 44 stations) but only 6 HELIOS® licenses.
A question was raised whether if was possible to cause the Mac that mounted the Brisque via HELIOS to timeout after a predefined idle time, thus freeing a HELIOS license.

Solution

The following solution was offered by HELIOS, whereby you modify 2 parameters in the atalk.conf file:

  • idletime idletime=time
where time is the number of minutes that you define for the Mac to be idle before you are logged out by the afpsrv program. Default time is 0 (that is, there is no timeout and the Mac will be idle 0 mins).
  • idlewarntime idlewarntime=warntime
where warntime is the number of minutes after which the afpsrv program displays a warning that you will be logged out by the afpsrv idletime. Default warntime is set to half the idletime, unless you define another value.
