Outlined spot color text in QuarkXPress 6.x files disappears after RIP in Brisque 5.x

Product

Brisque® 5.x

Platform

All Brisque platforms

Operating system

IBM® AIX® 5.2

Symptoms

When QuarkXPress® 6.x files contain spot color text in Outline style, the text disappears after RIP in Brisque 5.x.

The problem occurs when the file is printed to PostScript® in DeviceN color space, and RIPed in Brisque 5.x with the Spot Handling option set to All to Spot or Specific Info.

Cause

The Outline text style in QuarkXPress 6.x causes this problem. The problem does not occur with other text styles.

Solution

Use one of the following workarounds until the Brisque team provides a permanent solution:

  • Use Normalize to create a PDF prior to RIP.
  • Distill the PostScript file to PDF prior to RIP.
