On the Brisque 6F1 platform, a deleted output device cannot be reconfigured

Product

  • Brisque® 5.x
  • Brisque 4.x
  • All CTF/CTP devices

Platform

6F1

Operating system

IBM® AIX® 4.2.1, 4.3.3, 5.2

Error

The station's platform does not allow configuring a new device of the selected type.

Symptoms

On the Brisque 6F1 platform, after an output device was deleted in the Device Handling window, the device cannot be reconfigured and the error message appears.

Cause

One of the 6F1 CPUs may be defective and the system is working with only 3 CPUs instead of 4 CPUs. Since the system does not recognize the 6F1 platform with 3 CPUs, this configuration is rejected. To verify that this is the cause, open scismit and check if the station information shows only 3 CPUs.

Solution

Try one of the following 3 options, starting with the first option:

  1. Try to recover the defective CPU. Follow the instructions in: Determining if 6F1, 6E3 or 6E4 CPU should be replaced.
  2. If the recent configuration (before the device was deleted) is saved on the dataVolumes, try to restore the configuration.
  3. If the CPU is defective and cannot be recovered, and you cannot restore the configuration:
(Refer to the instructions in: Determining if 6F1, 6E3 or 6E4 CPU should be replaced.)
    • Using a hyperterminal, connect to the Brisque Service Processor via com 1 or com 2.
    • Disable one of the 3 functional CPUs on 6F1, so that only 2 CPUs are configured.
    • Redefine the output device using the standard method.
    • Enable the CPU that you previously disabled.
