Improving AIX 4.3.3 system performance

Product

  • Brisque 4.x
  • Brisque serve 4

Platform

All Brisque platforms

Operating system

IBM AIX 4.3.3

Symptoms

Paging activity is high, thus slowing down the system.

Solution

The following solution will eliminate almost all paging:
  1. Using vi, open the $SCI_SCRIPTS/start.ScitexServers file, and remove the # sign that appears at the beginning of the following line:
    su sciroot -c "/usr/samples/kernel/vmtune -p 10 -P 30 1>>&$logfile"
  2. Reboot the computer.
  3. To verify that the change was accepted, type:
    /usr/samples/kernel/vmtune

The system should respond with the following:

vmtune: current values:
-p -P -r -R -f -F -N -W
minperm maxperm minpgahead maxpgahead minfree maxfree pd_npages maxrandwrt
