Brisque cannot mount a RISC 6000 volume as an NFS (Network File System) volume

Product

  • Brisque™ Serve
  • Timna™

Platform

  • E30—Victory
  • 43P-140—Tiger1
  • 43P-150—Tiger2
  • 44P-170—Hammerhead
  • F50—Wildcat (2 and 4 CPUs)
  • 6F1—Condor (2, 4, and 6 CPUs)

Operating system

IBM®AIX 4.2.1 and IBM AIX 4.3.3

Symptoms

  Brisque cannot mount a RISC 6000 volume as an NFS (Network File System) volume. When you run the command showmount -e, the message Ripro01 : RPC 1832-019 Program not registered. appears. This message also appears on the NFS clients when you attempt to mount the NFS server volumes.

Cause

  The AIX operating system cannot resolve the host name of the server, because the DNS (Domain Name Server) was not located.

Solution

  This solution ensures that the DNS queries the local /etc/hosts file on Brisque or Timna.
  1. At the AIX command line prompt, open a text editor.
  2. Type the following text:
    hosts=local,bind
    services=local
  3. Save the file with the name netsvc.conf in the /etc/ folder (/etc/netsvc.conf).
