Legato backup file system not mirrored

Product

  • Brisque® Serve 4.0.35
  • Brisque Serve 4.0.21

Platform

  • F50—Wildcat (2 and 4 CPUs)
  • 44P–170—Hammerhead
  • 6F1—Condor (2, 4, and 6 CPUs)

Operating system

IBM® AIX 4.3.3

Symptoms

When you perform the mirror operation, the Legato backup file system that is located on the system or mirrored disk is not synchronized with its parallel disk.

Cause

The backuplv backup command has a limitation that allows only one physical partition per LV (logical volume) to be backed up.

By default, there are 32 physical partions configured on Brisque Serve.

Solution

Mirror the Legato backup file system manually:

Before you continue, first perform the mirroring procedure on the current system or mirrored disk where Legato is installed.

  1. At the AIX command line prompt, type
chlv -u '2' backuplv and press Enter.
This enables Brisque Serve to make copies of two logical volumes.
  2. Type mklvcopy -k backuplv 2 hdisk3 and press Enter.
This establishes the second copy of the LV on the destination disk hdisk3, and forces both disks to synchronize with one another.

A permanent solution is planned for the next release of Brisque Serve.
