From scismit: DB recover failed with status 147

Symptoms

After recreating a database following a crash, when you try to recover the database from the latest saveset or an older one, Onbar may fail with error 147.

Cause

The newer DB backup occurred after the DB was recreated from scratch, and prior to the Onbar recovery. This causes Legato to back up an almost empty file:
Onbar emergency boot (1 KB) at
/scitex/version/Manager/informix/etc/ixbar.1.
When you try to recover the DB from Onbar, it looks for the latest copy of this file, and recovers the useless small file, which does not contain info on the relevant older Onbar DB backups.

Onbar fails the recovery since any older DB backup saveset that is requested is not included in this file.

Solution

The workaround is to delete the redundant small saveset containing the incorrect ixbar.1 file:

1. Type: mminfo -av backup.15 | grep etc
   The follow appears:
   backup.15 ripro2 03/23/06 06:01:58 24 KB 574215681 cb full /scitex /version/Manager/informix/etc/
2. To delete, type: nsrmm -d -S 574215681
   The following appears:
   Delete the file and media index entries for: save set '574215681'?, type: y
   
3. To check that the saveset is deleted, type:
   mminfo -av backup.15 | grep etc

The next recovery attempt brings a larger ixbar.1 file (900 KB) and the Onbar recovery succeeds.
