Pandora generates negative bleed paths, no bleed paths, or pie-shaped segments in die

Product

Pandora® 2.5

Operating system

Mac OS®

Symptoms

If a die has very small line segments in the lower-left corner, Pandora may generate negative bleed paths or may not be able to extract bleed paths.

Cause

This is a known problem in Pandora 2.5 and Pandora 2.5.1.

Solution

A workaround is available in Pandora 2.5.2. The bleed generation algorithm has a default tolerance of 4.5 points in the defaultuser.properties file. This can be changed to accommodates dies that exhibit this problem.

To correct a negative bleed problem, change the tolerance setting to a lower number (for example, to 0.5). To correct a failure to extract a bleed path, try changing the tolerance setting to a higher number.

To change the tolerance setting for dies:

  1. With Pandora not running, use a text editor such as BBEdit® or TextPad® to open the defaultuser.properties file in the Pandora folder.
  2. Locate the following line:
    DieExtractionSlopValue
  3. Change the current tolerance setting to a lower or higher number as required.
  4. Save and close the file.
When you start Pandora, the new tolerance setting is used.
