Cannot find the die when opening a layout in Pandora 2.8

Product

  • Pandora® 2.8
  • Prinergy®

Platform

Macintosh and Windows®

Error

Die Name Cannot be found

Symptoms

Opening a layout in Pandora that contains a die stored in the Prinergy Jobs folder that was previously saved on a different platform causes the error.

Cause

Prinergy Workshop automatically mounts (or asks you to mount) the Jobs volume on your client if you access any job-related files while working in Prinergy Workshop. If you use this automatically mounted volume to select the die when creating a layout in Pandora, when you edit the layout on the other platform, Pandora displays the error. The path to the die file location in the job ticket cannot be resolved because the mount point of the automatically mounted Jobs volume is different on Macintosh and Windows.

Macintosh
If you create a Prinergy job and access job-related files from within that job on a Macintosh computer, Prinergy automatically mounts (or asks you to mount) the volume on your client so that the path is: \\[servername]\[sharename]\Jobs

Windows
If you create a Prinergy job and access job-related files from within that job on a Windows-based computer, Prinergy automatically mounts (or asks you to mount) the volume on your client so that the path is: \\[servername]\[sharename]

Pandora cannot resolve the different levels of mapped drives.

Solution

Workaround: Create an additional share on your Prinergy Workshop Macintosh client that uses the correct path, and use only this share to access your die files. You can continue to use the automatically mounted volume on the Windows client.

To create an additional share on a Macintosh computer:

  1. In Finder, from the Go menu, select Connect to Server.
  2. From the Tools menu, select Map Network Drive.
  3. In the Server Address box, type the path to the Jobs folder: smb://[servername]/[sharename]
You must use the Server Message Block (SMB) protocol to create this share, because Prinergy Workshop automatically uses the AppleTalk File Protocol (AFP) to create the original share.
  4. Click Connect.
  5. In the SMB/CIFS Filesystem Authentication dialog box, enter your Workgroup/Domain, Username, and Password.

When Pandora displays the error, browse to the correct volume to access your die files. Pandora will not display the error again.
