PPDs; Problems Adding Devices to Preps [ID: 80125]

Product

Preps® All

Operating system

Macintosh & Windows

Symptoms

A device does not appear in the Device Type box when you attempt to add a device.

Cause

The PPD for the device may not be in the correct location, or there may be a problem with the PPD.

Solution

To add a device to Preps, you must place a copy of the PPD in the Preps:Printers:PPD folder. You obtain a PPD either from the device’s manufacturer, or by generating one using a utility.

The PPD name must end in .ppd and can contain no special characters, such as colons, slashes, additional periods, etc.

The name that appears in the Device Type box is taken from the *ModelName: inside the PPD. This may not be the same as the external file name of the PPD, so it may not appear in the Device Type box where you expect.
