For a visual chart that summarizes the following steps, see this flowchart.
- Before trying any other solution, install the most current Preps update (5.2.1 or later).
If this does not resolve the problem, go to the next step.
Note: Preps 5.2.1 added an improved logic for identifying and locating a Preps license. For details, see Floating-license standalone Preps on Mac OS might not find a FLIM server.
- Restart all copies of Preps software.
- If Preps can successfully obtain a floating license on some computers but not all, then it’s likely that the number of available floating licenses is less than the number of Preps stations. Close the Preps software on other computers to free up the necessary number of Preps licenses, or purchase additional licenses.
- If this does not resolve the problem, go to the next step.
- If the client station is running Windows XP-SP2, check the firewall setting (for a different OS, go to the next step).
- Ping the server that hosts the floating license manager.
- If the ping is unsuccessful, a networking problem needs to be resolved. Contact your network administrator.
- If the ping is successful, try one or both of the remaining steps.
- Determine whether the problem is independent of the network:
On the floating license server, run a Kodak plug-in for Adobe Acrobat such as Dotshop or Trap Editor. These plug-ins use the same mechanism as Preps to check out licenses.
- If the plug-in runs successfully on the server, go to the next step.
- If the plug-in is unable to obtain a floating license, try restarting the floating license server.
To restart the Prinergy Connect floating license server:
- Right-click My Computer.
- Right-click Manage and click Services and Applications.
- Select Services.
- In the main window, right-click Creo Floating License Manager > select Stop.
- Repeat to select Start.
- If the plug-in can now obtain a license, go to the next step to determine whether Preps will run at the client station.
- If the plug-in is still unable to obtain a license, contact the Kodak response center.
To restart the Prinergy Evo floating license server:
- Open the Task Manager and select the Processes tab.
- Select JFloatLicMgrD.e.
- Click End Process.
- Wait for the process to restart itself.
- If the plug-in is now able to run, the problem is resolved.
- If the plug-in is still unable to obtain a license, contact the Kodak response center.
- At a client station, run a Kodak plug-in for Acrobat such as Dotshop or Trap Editor.
- If the plug-in does not run successfully, there may be further network or plug-in related problems. Contact the Kodak response center.
- If the plug-in runs successfully, try running Preps again. If Preps is still unable to obtain a license, you might have identified a new problem with the Preps software. Contact the Kodak response center.
