At the customer site where this was tested, the Lino530/RIP50 is used
only for 1-color books (on poor uncoated stock). Currently this site
runs the Lino530 at 2540 dpi/133 lpi, although this is not a recommended
combination (which might explain the banding in the flat screens).
Instead of using the Vancouver-created test files that tend to focus on
4-color blends, I created a test page that covered the issues relevant
to 1- and 2-color book printers (text, reversed text, flat screens, and
1-color blends). I produced files at both 1270 and 2540 dpi and saved as
DSC/CCITT compressed and as Grayscale EPS/RLE compressed. After fiddling
with the default page size so that the output would not be clipped to
8.5 x 11, I got all types of files to output.
