The Microsoft hot fix for the Code Red virus has been tested and qualified to install on Prinergy systems under the following conditions:

• The system is running Prinergy 2.0.5 or higher.
• The system is running Windows 2000 Service Pack 1 (SP1).

The Code Red hot fix should be installed on all Prinergy servers (primaries, secondaries, and renderstations) that meet BOTH of the above conditions. Testing indicates that Print Console 2.x is also okay with the hot fix installed. To download this hot fix, see the Resources and Downloads section, below.

Note the following:

• Do NOT install Windows 2000 SP1 on a Prinergy 2.0.4 system. SP1 will cause Prinergy 2.0.4 to fail on start up.
• Do NOT install Windows 2000 SP2 on any Prinergy systems. SP2 is not yet qualified for Prinergy and is known to cause problems with at least one JTP. SP2 is not required for the Code Red hot fix.

If your Prinergy system does not meet the conditions above (that is, the system is not running Prinergy 2.0.5 or higher, and/or it is not running W2K SP1), you have two options:

• Upgrade the system to at least Prinergy 2.0.5 and W2K SP1, or
• Use the manual method to disinfect the servers. (See the link in the Resources and Downloads section, below, for the procedure.)

Note: For Prinergy 1.1 systems (strictly Windows NT4), the Microsoft webserver component was not installed because Prinergy InSite did not ship with Prinergy 1.1. This means that the Code Red hot fix should not be needed for Prinergy 1.1 systems.

Detector utility from Symantec that verifies whether the hot fix is installed:

  Note that this utility does NOT check to see whether the virus is present, NOR will it clean up a worm that is present; it just lets you know if the machine is vulnerable.

• Code Red II removal tool
  Note that this tool may or may not work with new Code Red variants that haven't appeared yet, but it does close off the hole that allows the machine to become infected.
