Error |

Symptoms |
When trying to retrieve a job, the process plan fails to retrieve and indicates a CRC (cyclic redundancy check) error on the tape. The rest of the files will not retrieve, even though the process plan is set to "continue on warning or file error". |
Cause |
Any hardware fault or environmental problem can cause a hard read error on the tape. | |
Solution |
Locate the file that is causing the CRC error in the History log. Change the process plan to do a selective retrieve without the one that is causing the CRC. The file that having the hard read error cannot be used. NOTE: There may be multiple CRC errors within one job, and it is very inconvenient and time consuming to retrieve all the files using this workaround.
STRONGLY RECOMMEND THE CUSTOMER TO CREATE A DUPICATE ARCHIVE FOR THEIR JOBS TO AVOID THE POSSIBILITY OF DATA LOSS. For Prinergy 1.1, create a second archive process plan and ask the customer to archive onto two pools. For Prinergy 2.0, add the second archive media pools to the archive process plan to ensure the archive goes into two pools. Also, add the archive media pools to the purge process plan, so when purging the job, it will check for the archives in both pools before purging. Permanent fix: |
