WARNING: When changing from a tape library to a single DLT drive, you may need a single end SCSI card and terminator for the single drive, as the tape library is connected with a differential SCSI card. Also, when changing drive type, make sure you understand the drive capacity; it is backward compatible only i.e. a higher drive capacity like a DLT 8000 can read a tape written on a tape drive of lower or same capacity such as a DLT 2000, 4000, 7000 or 8000, but not the other way around. FOR PRINERGY 1.1: The following procedure describes how to migrate from a tape library to a single DLT drive using the Archiver Config Wizard and libdiag. This also covers changing drive types. NOTE: If you disconnect the device before performing step A below, the Config Wizard won't be able to remove the device properly. Reconnect the device and make sure it must be ON before running the Config Wizard. Step A: Removing the archiving device: 1. Stop the Parch and Purge JTPs. 2. Use Archiver Media Manager to eject all tapes from the device. Make sure that all tapes are shown as offline. Delete all tapes from the free, import, and unrecognized system pools. 3. Shut down and disable ERSM service using the Services settings in the Control Panel. 4. Run the Config Wizard to remove the current device. 5. Check the registry setting, \hkey_local_machine\software\Creo\Arch PVR 0\, to confirm that it has removed the Physical Library A subkey. 6. Delete the following registry keys: \\hkey_local_machine\software\creo\Araxi\RSM\Drives \\hkey_local_machine\software\creo\Araxi\RSM\DriveTypes \\hkey_local_machine\software\creo\Araxi\RSM\Libraries \\hkey_local_machine\software\creo\Araxi\RSM\LibRequests \\hkey_local_machine\software\creo\Araxi\RSM\OperatorRequest \\hkey_local_machine\software\creo\ARCH_PVR_0
7. Shut down the system, disconnect the tape library and reconnect the single DLT drive with a single end SCSI card and terminator. 8. Power on the device and restart the system. 9. Check that the correct drivers are loaded in the SCSI and Tape Device settings of the Control Panel. 10. Run the Archiver Config Wizard to install the single DLT drive. 11. Check whether it has created the Physical Library A subkey under ARCH PVR 0. If not, try the additional step B listed below. 12. Start Media Manager and insert tapes into the library. 13. Wait until the library has performed a full inventory and then update the inventory in Media Manager. Highlight the library and right click to select inventory. 14. Start the Parch and Purge JTPs to perform archive/retrieve. Additional Step B: During steps 10 and 11, if there is an error message "unable to install the selected DLT Drive to the archive library" and it did not create the Physical Library A key, try this: 1. Go to Control Panel\Tape Devices, select the drive for the Archiver, click on Properties, and mark down the device map value. Next, select the settings tab, mark down the SCSI port ID, bus number, target ID and logical unit number for the drive. You will need these values for steps 2 and 4. 2. Go to a DOS prompt and type “libdiag –i –addlib Library0. This will create the physical library A subkey in the registry. In the registry, look for \hkey_local_machine\software\Creo\ArchPVR0\PhysicalLibraryA. 3. Update the registry settings, start regedt32, go to \\hkey_local_machine\software\Creo\Araxi\1.0.12.BLD169\Default\Archiver, select the EngineKind, and change it from None to Ntms.
4. Type “libdiag –i –adddev TapeX <port> <bus> <target ID> <lun> DLTDrive0. This will add the drive device attributes in the registry. For example, if the device map is Tape1, the SCSI port ID is 1, bus number is 0, target ID is 5, logical unit number is 0. The command will be “libdiag –i –adddev Tape1 1 0 5 0 DLTDrive0. DLTDrive0 is just a username.
5. Start ERSM service and edit it to start automatically. Select Control Panel\Service, double click on CreoERSMService, set the startup type to automatic, and click OK. 6. Perform an archive to verify that it works. FOR PRINERGY 2.0 : Since it is running on Windows 2000 and works with RSM, we don't need to run the config wizard anymore. See the procedure "Configuring Tape Devices on a W2K server" by navigating to the Archiver Hardware site (http://intranet.creo.com/support/html/workflow/archiver_hardware/index.htm), selecting the appropriate device, and going to that device's Installation page.
