Symptoms

When trying to mount a tape in the drive to archive/retrieve, the task fails with the error, "Unable to mount medium".

Cause

For Prinergy 2.0 with a single DLT drive, if you unload the tape from the drive without using RSM to eject the drive, this may cause confusion for the Media Manager.

Solution

For Prinergy 1.1, use Archiver Media Manager, expand the physical location, highlight the archiving device and right click on Inventory. This will perform an inventory of the library and then update the ERSM service. Try to unload the tape in the drive using Media Manager and then try to archive/retrieve. If you have problems dismounting the tape from the drive, then it may actually be a hardware problem (i.e. the tape is stuck in the drive).

For Prinergy 2.0, select Start | Programs | Prinergy | Removable Storage Management. Expand the physical locaton, select the archiving device, and right click on Inventory.

If updating the inventory does not fix the problem, you may want to perform the following:

- Try dismounting the tape in the drive using Media Manager/RSM. If this fails, then the tape is stuck in the drive. Try to unload the tape manually.

For Faststor, use the Mode button to unload the tape. Sometimes, if the tape is stuck in the drive, you may have to unload many times and finally the tape will release from the drive.

For ATL, you need to open the door to manually unload the tape. Once you close the door of the library, it will perform an inventory. After that, click on the library to do an inventory to update the ERSM/RSM service.
