Symptoms |
A tape device fails to perform any tape operations as instructed through Archiver Media Manager, even after it has been configured. DiagView shows the warning, "No device found." The tape device has a 2-digit SCSI target ID. The same drive will show up twice under Tape Devices, one for target ID 3 and not loaded. This is the original one that was configured for Archiver. The other one has ID 10 and driver loaded. |

Cause |
Hardware fault, maybe a bend pin in the SCSI cable or terminator. This is NT4 and therefore the tape is only registered during boot into NT. The question is whether the problem lies with NT, the SCSI BIOS, or the hardware. |

Solution |
How often does this happen? If it is reproducable occasionally, then does it ever show up twice in the Adaptec BIOS during the boot? If it appears at the BIOS, then check the "Adaptec Settings for the 2944" in http://intranet.creo.com/support/html/workflow/dg_emc_platforms/3700/install.htm. It more than likely to be a bad cable, terminator, adaptor, or drive. Swap cables and terminators first and go from there. Permanent fix: |
