Cause

The archive was written to 64Kb somehow and the Archiver JTP can only handle archives with a 16Kb block size.

Solution

If it is running Prinergy 2.0.4, install patch 35 and 37 immediately.

Patch 35 writes all Prinergy-format archives with consistent (16K) block sizes.

Patch 37, which provides an improved Uarchcon utility to allow retrieval of savesets with non-standard block sizes.

Following these steps to use Uarchcon to restore the job:

1. Find the absolute block location at which the archive to retrieve is located.

Go to a DOS prompt and type <sqlplus prinergy/araxi> to logon to sqlplus.

At SqlPlus> type <select * from dbcs_archive where jckdname like '%the job that you want to retrieve';>.

This will list you all the database value for this job. Look for the column PhysicalArchiveStartLoc value. You need this value for Uarchcon to restore the job.

2. Mount the tape into the drive that contains the data, and run Uarchcon as follows:

uarchcon d# -v -9 -z0 -y<PhysicalArchiveStartLoc for Archive>

NOTE: This will restore the files to their ORIGINAL locations.

3. To restore the files to a different location, use the following command:

uarchcon d# -v -9 -z0 -y<PhysicalArchiveStartLoc for Archive> -m -o<Path>

where:

# is the number of the drive that the tape containing the archive is mounted in (i.e. 0 for \\.\tape0)

-9 is the new option for restoring the archive with a 64kb block size

<path> is the location you wish to restore the files to. Note that the directory must exist already.

For a long-term solution, upgrade the system to 2.0.5. A new Archiver JTP to restore archives with 16Kb and 64Kb block sizes.

Permanent fix: Prinergy 2.0
