Symptoms |
When you want to retrieve a job from tape, the tape just keeps rewinding when it is mounting in the drive; it goes into an infinite loop. |
Cause |
1.The Archiver cannot find the blocksize of the location of the archive or retrieve. 2. The file directory on the tape is corrupted. |

Solution |
For Cause 1: You can use Uarchcon to set the blocksize of the tape. 1. Insert the tape into the drive. 2. Go to a DOS prompt, and type < uarchcon -d# -b16384>. This will set the media blocksize. Or use rawtape to read the medium header. 1. Go to dos prompt, type <rawtape \\.\tape# -m>, this will also set the default blocksize to 16Kb. For Cause 2. We have seen this problem in the past, the retrieve cannot find the position of the job, it will read through the entire tape to rebuild the directory. The retreive will take very long time, like couple of hours. After that, the tape will be fine afterwards. Permanent fix: |
