Error |
Symptoms |
- Files might fail to be purged. - A file might report an ERROR_INVALID_DATA when being retrieved. - Although you thought you had archived a file to two media pools, you can only retrieve it from one media pool. |
Cause |
A) Files might fail to be purged because the CRC-32 computed on the file's content as computed by the PPurgeJTP.exe might differ from the value computed by the PArchRetJTP.exe during the archive operation. This shows up as "file has changed since archived" or "file not archived" or something to that effect. Re-archiving the file allows it to be purged. B) There was a bug in the way an ERROR_SHARING_VIOLATION was being handled when writing data to tape, i.e. the error was being overlooked. The sharing violation seems to occur mostly at file-stream boundaries, and usually when there is more than one drive in the library. This could lead to a number of different symptoms. C) Although you thought you had archived a file to two media pools, you can only retrieve it from one media pool. This could happen if the Purge process plan did not list both media pools and failed to write the Mac-resource stream to tape for one of the tape-instances. |

Solution |
Try re-archiving the file, and the purge should be fine. Permanent fix: Prinergy 2.0 |
