Error |
ATL2640 tape library error 8C (Light Curtain Broken). |
Symptoms |
ATL 2640 Tape Library is not working, fails to initialize. |
Cause |
The light curtain is an LED and sensor that checks for anything that sticks out of the tape bins such as a half-inserted tape. If the light beam is broken by a tape part-way in, the tape library will stop working to prevent the picker from crashing into whatever is blocking the light beam. | |

Solution |
Check for any tape that sticking out of the bins to block the LED, turn the carousel to check for all the bins. Another Note from Field Engineer: I noticed an emitter board at the bottom of the library placed in front of the tape bins. When I looked up, I saw the sensor board with a green LED. The sensor board was shrouded by the library's upper structure, explaining how I had missed it up to that point. When I broke the beam, the LED on the sensor board went out. I noticed the corner of the tape bins just barely broke the beam when the carousel was turned. So, I adjusted the emitter out and away from the tapes some, and that did the trick. There are two small Phillip's screws used to hold the light curtain/bin locating tab board. These can be loosened to adjust the location of the board. Actually, I had to "trim" the front part of the metal piece to which the board is mounted. This was done in order for the emitter to send out it's beam unobstructed. Permanent fix: |
