Symptoms

Archiver or RSM is having problem to dismount a tape from the drive on a Qualstar tape library. There are error messages indicated the dismount failed in RSM work queue or Prinergy diag log from Archiver.

Cause

  1. RSM is out of sync.

2. The tape is stuck in the drive.

Solution

For cause 1:

1. Perform an fast inventory in RSM may clear this situation.

2. Or you may have to stop and restart RSM service.

For cause 2:

You may need to manually unload a tape from the drive.

1. Stop RSM service.

2. Press the MENU button on the LCD Panel on the tape library.

3. Scroll to OPERATION and press ENTER.

4. Scroll to PARK HANDLER and enter to park the handler to the bottom of the tape library.

5. Scroll to UNLOAD DRIVE and press ENTER. The tape drive will unload the tape.

5. Open the door of the tape library, manually take the tape to any empty slot. Close the door.

6. Perform an inventory through RSM.

7. If you still cannot unload the tape, you may need to power down the tape library and hold down the eject button on the drive and then power on the tape library. Try to do that a few times to eject the tape from the drive.

8. If it still does not work, you may have to take the drive out to unload the tape. Please refer to another procedure "How to rescue an AIT tape stuck in the drive".

Note: You need to arrange an engineer on site to perform that.
