Symptoms |
When trying to archive to a tape, it failed with no writable media. The freespace of the tape is set to 0, but the used space of the tape is not close to full capacity. |
Cause |
There are two reasons that archiver will set the tape to 0. 1. When there is a CRC error writing to the tape. 2. When there is a drive problem that having problem to detect the freespace on the tape. |

Solution |
1. Check the diag log and find out why the archiver set the freespace to 0. If there is a CRC error when writing to the tape, the archiver will complete the tape and set the freespace to 0 also. Clean the drive as well. 2. Check the system event log to see whether there is any bad block error on the drive. If there is a drive problem, you may want to clean the drive. If cleaning the drive does not help, you need to replace the drive then. Permanent fix: |
