How Qualstar Library is configured to work with RSM?

The CALL button is disabled when RSM is used. When you enable CALL button and set "Slot Access" to both, next time you restart the server, they will be reset to "disabled" and "host" respectively. Any method if injecting a tape other than using RSM would require a reinventory of the whole library, since RSM doesn't know what element has changed.

When injecting a tape using RSM, the top numbered slot/fixed slot are populated first. The fixed slots and the magazine slots are lumped into one continuous resource for the host. So if you were to inject a tape into an empty library, the fixed slots will be filled first, then the magazine slots. If you were to move the tapes manually (from the control panel), the host (thus RSM) would not have any idea of the changes. If a mount failure is encountered, RSM will initiate an inventory. This is why it is important to perform library operations using RSM.

Display: The status line only does show the robot operations. Reading and Writing are drive operations and the library does not directly control it and does not know if the current operation is reading or writing. The host messages line is not being utilized by the host software (which is RSM).

Sequential/Random mode: RSM requires the drives be set to Random. This allows the drives and slots to be controlled by the host computer. Sequential operation is used by some application which doesn't have interface for library operations, and only interfaces directly with the drive.

Q-Link: That library doesn't have Q-Link option. Configuration and Managment capability with Q-link can not be done without the option.
