Symptoms |
When trying to archive a job, it fails and reports "Error 21 - The device is not ready. " The tape drive shows up properly in the registry and also in the device manager. The tape drive functions properly in RSM and mounts and dismounts tape. However, it cannot backup and archive any file on the drive. Or you may archive one job, but you cannot archive more than that, because the tape positioning doesn't work with the unterminated bus. |

Cause |
This problem is caused by an improperly terminated drive. | |
Solution |
Reseat the terminator, or replace the terminator if it is faulty. NOTE: If the terminator has an LED, the light should be green. This indicates that you are connecting in LVD mode. If it's red, it indicates SE mode. SE mode is sensitive to SCSI cable length. Permanent fix: |
