Symptoms |
Even though the original file (the one generated by the original refine) was archived, the storage tab after the second refine shows the file as Online and Never Archived. Details: In Prinergy 2, when you re-refine a previously refined input file, the page(s) created from the original refine are replaced by the newly refined page(s). (This is different than Prinergy 1.x. With Prinergy 1.x the newly refined page(s) are given different names (ending in .p1.r1.pdf for example) instead of replacing the original page(s).) Suppose there is a single page input file named sample.ps. This is refined to sample.p1.pdf. If the archiver function is available, the job can be archived. Suppose the refined pages of the job are selectively purged. On the storage tab, these page files (including sample.p1.pdf) are shown as Offline and Currently Archived because these files are no longer in the file system and they were archived. Finally, suppose the sample.ps input file is refined again, generating a new sample.p1.pdf. |

Cause |
When an input file is refined again, the page(s) created from the original refine are replaced. When this replacement occurs, the database tie is cut between the old page(s) and their old PDF file (and their old thumbnail and bypass parts files, if any), and the new PDF file (and ancillary files) are linked in the database to the newly refined page(s). The database sees the new PDF file (and ancillary files) as having never been archived, even though the old PDF file was archived and is still on the archive media. In the example given earlier, even though the original sample.p1.pdf (the one generated by the original refine) was archived, the storage tab after the second refine shows sample.p1.pdf as Online and Never Archived. |

Solution |
Need to re-archive the file again; since the link in the database between the old page and file is gone, the file won't be able to retrieve. Permanent fix: Prinergy 2.0 |
