Prinergy Refiner fails to re-refine a PDF file if pages have been deleted from the input file

Product

  Prinergy Connect 2.0

Platform

Server: Dell all; Client: PC or Macintosh

Operating system

Server: Windows 2000; Client: Windows or Macintosh

Error

Workshop reports the following error:

Message from Extreme: Register: registering-spe Failed processing

Register: Cannot replace existing 12 page(s) with 11 page(s) for input file test.pdf

Symptoms

***Applies to Prinergy Connect, Powerpack, Direct, Satellite, depending on installed configuration.***

In Prinergy 2.0, when you re-refine a file, the new file replaces the original file. This is a change from 1.1 where Prinergy produces a re-refined file with a revision suffix.

Cause

Prinergy Refiner splits the input file into one page per file and records the number of pages the input file produced. If the input file was modified and the page count no longer matches the number of pages registered in Prinergy, Refiner fails to re-refine the file because it is not clear how/which pages to replace. Since the file is modified outside of Prinergy, there's no way to track this and it is safer to just fail and require user intervention than to replace files incorrectly.

Solution

1) In Prinergy Workshop, delete all the pages from the original input file.

2) Re-refine the file.
