Symptoms

Thumbnails don't repaint after thumbnail files have been retrieved from tape.

When you open a purged job with Job Manager, page thumbnails all appear as the same generic thumbnail. When you retrieve the job, the currently open Job Manager will still show the retieved job's thumbnails as the generic thumbnail. You need to close and reopen the Job Manager window to see the retrieved page thumbnails.

To reproduce the problem:

1. Archive and purge a job. Note that the pages do not show any thumbnails (all show the generic missing thumbnail image).

2. Select one surface in thumb mode from the sig panel and create a 'RetrieveSelectedFiles' process.

After the process is completed, the following files should be retrieved: imposition plan, imposition marks files, PDF page files for all pages on selected surface, and page thumbnails.

The thumbnails of pages in the pages panel do redraw, but the thumbnail of pages within signatures do not redraw and manual refresh doesn't help. Once the Job Manager window is closed and reopened, the thumbnails are drawn okay.

Cause

If you open a Job that has been purged, the JobManager displays generic page thumbnails because the thumbnail files no longer exist on the server (since the job has been purged). If you subsequently retrieve the job, the JobManager window will not automatically re-read the thumbnail files until you close and re-open the JobManager window.

Solution

Once the retrieve process has finished, quit and restart Workshop. The correct thumbnails will now appear.
