Error |
Oracle installation hangs when installing on a Pentium 4 server. We currently do not support P4 servers as the DELL Pentium 4 servers have not yet been qualified. However, some preliminary testing has shown this problem, so this workaround is posted here to help people who are helping out with the qualification. |

Symptoms |
During the Prinergy install, you are required to insert the Oracle installation CD. During the installation of Oracle, the installer hangs and never completes. |
Cause |
This problem is because the Pentium 4 is not backwards compatible with any Java version older than 1.3.1, so the Java Runtime Environment does not run properly on P4. The Oracle 8.1.6 Installer uses an old version of Java, and the DLL file responsible for identifying the processor does not properly identify the P4. | |

Solution |
1. Make your own copy of the Oracle CD by copying the contents to a local drive. 2. Rename the symcjit.dll to symcjit.old that you find in the CD image. 3. Map a drive to the root location of the local copy CD image. 4. When prompted for the CD drive letter during the Prinergy installation, provide this newly mapped drive letter rather than the standard CD drive letter. 5. Oracle should then install successfully on the P4 server. Permanent fix: |
