Symptoms |
The EPM server will not start up in EPM primary mode (ie. after a "switch to primary" on the EPM secondary) after an upgrade from 2.0.7 to 2.1. On startup, DIAG indicates that you cannot connect to the araxidbemergencyserver. |

Cause |
There is a TNSNames.ora file for the database that contains database names and information on how to connect to them. A typical system contains only one entry for a single database called "araxidbserver". When you install EPM, a new entry gets added into this file for the EPM server's database called "araxidbemergencyserver". During the 2.0.7 to 2.1 upgrade, this file gets overwritten and the "araxidbemergencyserver" entry is wiped out. |

Solution |
If the primary server was: YCS1185-546 and the EPM secondary server was: YCS1187-546 The original entry on the EPM secondary in the ora816\network\admin\tnsnames.ora file should appear as: AraxiDBServer = (DESCRIPTION = (ADDRESS_LIST = (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = YCS1185-546)(PORT = 1521)) ) (CONNECT_DATA = (SERVICE_NAME = CreoDB) ) ) You should add a new additional entry into the ora816\network\admin\tnsnames.ora file on the EPM secondary as: AraxiDBEmergencyServer = (DESCRIPTION = (ADDRESS_LIST = (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = YCS1187-546)(PORT = 1521)) ) (CONNECT_DATA = (SERVICE_NAME = CreoDB) ) ) Permanent fix: |
