Symptoms |
After a failed initial install, the second install works but Main Directory Daemon and File Register Daemon fail to start correctly. (The initial Prinergy installation fails because the PATH variable is too long. The second installation is successful after you've fixed the path.)

||
Cause |
The problem is that the environment PATH variable is too long. Under NT, the length of environment variables cannot exceed a certain number of characters. If you have installed a number of things on the system, it is possible that the PATH environment variable could get very long. When you install Prinergy, the installer checks for the length of the path variable before it updates it. If the PATH is too long, the installer will exit. However, the installer does not bother to update the PATH with the Oracle directory if it appears that Oracle is already installed (The original Oracle entries are probably still in the Registry). If the Oracle directory is not in the PATH, then these two Prinergy components will not be able to startup. |

Solution |
Shutdown Prinergy and add the Oracle directory to the PATH variable. It will most likely be in E:\Orant\bin. Permanent fix: |
