Q: How can I tell which Prinergy patches are installed on the server? A: There are three methods: 1. From the Prinergy Administrator in the version column in the process tab. This is a quick visual method to check the version of a specific process, for example, Archive/Retrieve JTP 1.0.12-169.PATCH01. The drawbacks are: - Prinergy must be running - Slow because of the GUI (remote or with Pcanywhere) - Only a visual check - cannot save to text file. 2. From the command line with the Prinergy Patch utility. You can use RCMD or the Pcanywhere console window to start the PPU. With RCMD: a) Open a command prompt window. b) Map a drive to the remote server - establish credential as an administrator. Type NET USE * \\PrinergyServer\D$ creo /u:administrator. c) Start RCMD session. Type RCMD \\PrinergyServer. It should respond: Connected to \\pysupport1 Microsoft(R) Windows NT(TM) (C) Copyright 1985-1996 Microsoft Corp. D:\WINNT\system32> If it did not respond with the prompt then RCMD may not be installed. Use RCMDINST to remotely install the service. d) Type PPU at the command prompt. The PPU prompt does NOT appear. It will just show a blinking cursor. DON’T worry it because it did not flush the buffer to screen. e) Type LIST. Once again nothing will display except the blinking cursor. f) Type EXIT. The results are flushed to the screen. For example: Prinergy Patch Utility v1.0.12-169 (c) 1999 Creo Products Inc. ppu> Patches installed on PYSUPPORT1: Prinergy-1.1p01-x86 Prinergy-1.1p07-mac Prinergy-1.1p07-x86 Prinergy-1.1p08-x86 Prinergy-1.1p11-mac Prinergy-1.1p11-x86 Prinergy-1.1p12-java Prinergy-1.1p12-x86 Prinergy-1.1p15-x86 Prinergy-1.1p17-x86 Prinergy-1.1p18-x86 Prinergy-1.1p20-x86 Prinergy-1.1p21-x86 Prinergy-1.1p23-x86 Prinergy-1.1p25-x86 Prinergy-1.1p26-java 16 patch(es) found. ppu> D:\WINNT\system32> 3. Open the patch database file with text editor. The patch database file located in \\PrinergyServer\AraxiHome\CreoAraxi\support\patches\admin\ppu.db. This file has the most information. It includes a description of the patch and when it was installed. Patch entry looks like: <PPU SCHEMAVER="1"> <SITE ROOT="D:\Araxi1.0.12.169RT" BASE="1.0.12.BLD169" PLATFORM="x86" NODE="PRIMARY1-1" /> <PATCH NAME="Prinergy-1.1p28-x86"> <DESCRIPTION>Fix for page set problems when multiple users create page sets simultaneously.</DESCRIPTION> <INSTDATE>Tue Nov 23 17:46:08 1999</INSTDATE> </PATCH> We are collecting this file to keep track of the patches that are installed at each site. Q: How can I find out what patches are installed without dialing in to the site? A: The database file for each server is located on \\violet\rc_common\prinergy\patchdb. When you are dialed in to troubleshoot a problem, take some time to copy the patch db to rc_common so that others can benefit and this information is captured. It is a very small text file so it takes no time at all to download. Please name the PPU.DB file with the following convention: <SiteName>_<ServerName>.db Q: How do I find out what patches are installed on the client? A: Launch workshop. From the apple icon, select About. This will list the Prinergy build and version, including the Java virtual machine. To find out the version of a plug-in, select “About plug-ins from the apple icon when Acrobat is running. Permanent fix: |
