Error |

Symptoms |
A job has been fully purged when retrieved and the archiving software won't restore all of the job's empty folders. |
Cause |
Archiver does not archive directories. Therefore, a directory is not restored after a purge unless it: 1. is an automatically generated job system folder. 2. is an automatically generated job user folder as specified in the "JOBD\UserDefinedJobFolders" registry key entry. 3. contains one or more archived files. |

Solution |
The only way to get extra folders restored is to set them up system-wide (in the Registry key for JOBD), meaning that they will apply to all jobs created from that point on. This is accomplished by specifying a set of custom extra folders to be created within each job's UserDefinedFolders sub-folder. To do this, edit the Registry on the primary server as follows (if you're already familiar with editing the Windows registry, jump to step 12): 1. Log on to the console of the primary node using an account that has administrative privileges. 2. From the Start menu, select Run. 3. In the Open box, type regedt32, and click OK. 4. When the Registry Editor program starts, go to the window titled "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE on Local Machine". (It may be minimized, but it can never be closed completely.) 5. If the window isn't split into two side-by-side panes, with an Explorer-like tree of folder-like "keys" on the left and a "details" view of the current key on the right, drag the splitter from the far edge of the window to somewhere in the middle. 6. Within the top level HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE key, navigate down one level to the SOFTWARE key, then click to expand the list so that the Creo subkey within the SOFTWARE key is visible. 7. Click the Creo key to expand it, so the Araxi key is visible. 8. Click the Araxi key to expand it. There should be a value in the right hand pane that looks like CurrentRelease: REG_SZ : 1.0.11.BLD99 This value is the name of the subkey within the Araxi key that points to the currently active configuration (in case there are multiple configurations from different installations/upgrades). 9. Click that key name within the Araxi key to expand it, showing the Default key. 10. Click the Default key to expand it, showing a long list of keys. This is the standard way to get at the Araxi registry configuration on any server node. 11. Click the JOBD key to expand it. You should see a value in the right hand pane that looks like UserDefinedFolders: REG_SZ: <blank, or some string> The string lists the names of folders that are to be created within the UserDefinedFolders sub-folder below a job's root folder every time a job is created. If it's blank, no extra folders will be created. 12. To have a single extra folder created named "MyCustomFolder", edit the string value (double-click the value name to bring up the String Editor dialog) and type in the directory name, with no extra trailing spaces. Click OK to save the value. 13. To have two or more folders, separate the folder names with semicolons. Make sure there is no trailing semicolon or space after the last folder name. 14. For the changes to take effect, you will have to restart the system i.e. stop all server and restart. Or, if you really know what you are doing, just stop the Main Directory Server alone (MDIR in R11 beta, PMainDirectoryD in R12 and after) and it will automatically restart itself when needed and nothing else needs to be affected. You may get a warning in UADM saying MDIR has terminated, but ignore it. 15. Using Workshop, create a dummy test job, and confirm that the extra folders are properly created when the job's folder is browsed in Explorer or Finder. This is a known limitation of the Archiver and there are no plans to fix it. Permanent fix: |
