TaskServerData folder fills system disk

Product

  Prinergy 1.1; Prinergy Connect 2.0

Platform

Operating system

Error

Symptoms

The need to restart the system on a regular basis (more than once a week) after receiving errors such as "Marks JTP error" and "Add-marksets - Failed processing".

When checking the d: drive on the Primary, the disk is full. After restarting the Primary, the disk becomes empty and the problem goes away for a while, until the disk fills again.

Cause

In a normal situation, the TaskServerData folder is cleaned every 72 hours and during a reboot of the Primary server.

However, for sites that do a lot of processing (many operators, many pages, complex impositions, large mark files, etc.) the disk might be filled too quickly, resulting in malfunctioning of the Primary server, including job errors, stopping processing of other jobs, etc.

Solution

Development is working on a patch to make the cleanup of the TaskServerData folder more intelligent. (Based on size instead of time.)

Until this patch is ready, there are the following solutions:

1. Move the paging file off the system drive to the Temp drive (usually E:). This will free up 1-2 GB of space.

2. If the printer is attempting to output an extreme amount of signature in a twenty-four period, then there is a registry key that can be altered. The key can be found in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\CREO\ARAXI\2.0.4BLD69\Default\TAKS.

Change the CleanTaskDirLifetimeInSeconds to a lower number. This will cause the Process Daemon to empty the directory quicker than the default 259200 second (72 hour) period. Example: 86400 for 24 hours.

If this solution is not sufficient, contact development. There is the possibility to change the location of the TaskServerData folder to the RAID, but this should not be done by a field specialist, due to the complexity of Prinergy.
